Durgamati is a hindi horror, thriller and drama movie. Durgamati is a remake of a Tamil-Telugu film Bhaagamathie directed by the G.Ashok. It was earlier named as Drugavati but then afterwards it’s name was changed to Durgamati. Durgamati movie was released on 11th November 2020. The movie kept aside the rule of releasing movies in theatre and the team of Durgamati launched their film on an OTT platform Amazon Prime Video. The film is directed by G. Ashok & is produced by Bhooshan Kumar, Akshay Kumar and Vikram Malhotra with T-Series, Cape of Good Films & Abundantia Entertainment.
The film stars Bhumi Pednekar, Arshad Warsi, Mahie Gill, Jisshu Sengupta and others in supporting roles. Critics were not that positive about Durgamati & did not applaud this remake instead it got some bad comments from the critics’ bowl. This movie imparts a lesson or two as it shows how dirty the politicians are & how awful politics has become. It also teaches us that however difficult the situation is, one should always be true to himself, his/her county, & his/her countrymen.

Durgamati Movie Plot Summary
Durgamati movie started with Ishwar Prasad (political leader) confronting people & saying that if within 15 days the thieves who stole all the antique idols from Temples are not caught, then he will resign from politics. He also made Ajay (son of a poor farmer) his representative who’ll continue his legacy. This troubles the political rivals & hence they plan to defame Ishwar Prasad.
Ishwar Prasad was a leader who was strongly committed to people’s welfare & people saw him as an idol. That is when Satakshi Ganguly (CBI Officer) who was allotted the case of the stolen idols & also to defame Ishwar Prasad by bringing out all his black works to the public & she meets ACP Abhay Singh who was handling the case of stolen idols. Chanchal Chauhan (IAS) who’s already in jail for shooting her own fiancé Shakti (the brother of ACP Abhay Singh) had been working with Ishwar Prasad as her Personal Secretary & that is why Satakshi orders to interrogate her.
As the interrogation was supposed to be secret, they moved Chanchal to an isolated Durgamati Haveli. Durgamati Haveli was already known for being haunted & it was said that Durgamati’s soul still wanders in the haveli. Satakshi begins to interrogate Chanchal & strange things start happening with Chanchal in haveli and that is when the story begins with its twists & turns which drives the viewer crazy. The suspense holds the viewer & the way the story unfolds is astonishing.

Durgamati was very much criticised by the critics & the voice of Durgamati was given by Bhumi Pednekar which was also criticised. The movie got 3.8/10 from IMDb, 1.5/5 from Indian Express and 2.5/5 from Times of India. The movie was expected to perform better as a lot of buzz was created before its release.

Durgamati has no box office collection as when the movie was released all the theatres were closed & hence the movie was released on an OTT platform and hence its box office collection cannot be told. The movie’s budget was 40 crores. The movie made an advance collection of around 100 crores by selling digital rights, musical rights & satellite rights.
